About Community Science

From the academic session 2026–27 onwards, Home Science in the B.A. Programme will be offered under the consolidated discipline of Community Science. The earlier individual streams/disciplines namely Apparel Design and Construction (ADC), Food Technology (FT), Nutrition and Health Education (NHE), and Human Development and Family Empowerment (HDFE) have been discontinued and integrated into a comprehensive Community Science framework. The newly structured Community Science programme will continue to provide students with interdisciplinary exposure to the core Home Science disciplines. The revised structure aims to provide broader academic exposure, multidisciplinary learning opportunities, and enhanced relevance to contemporary community, lifestyle, and developmental needs.

Community Science is a practical, professional and career-oriented programme that prepares students for a wide range of opportunities. It offers learning in diverse areas such as nutrition, fashion and textiles, human development, communication, resource management and community development.

The programme goes beyond classroom learning and focuses on practical knowledge, useful skills and real-life applications. It can open pathways to higher studies, teaching, government and competitive examinations, NGOs, fashion and apparel, food industry, communication, community development, govt. organisations, and also entrepreneurship. Choose Community Science to learn practical skills, explore diverse careers and prepare yourself for the future.

Students graduating with Community Science may explore opportunities for higher education through postgraduate programmes, B.Ed., PG-diploma, and other courses in allied disciplines, subject to the eligibility criteria prescribed by the respective institutions. The programme also provides a strong academic foundation for pursuing careers in areas related to Community Science and Home Science, in accordance with applicable university and recruitment norms.
