1. Brief introduction of the Department:
Established in 1993, the Department of Home Science is committed to promoting comprehensive education that enhances the quality of individual, family, and community life. Home Science has evolved significantly from its traditional focus on homemaking into a dynamic and multidisciplinary field that integrates scientific knowledge, technological advancements, and social understanding to address contemporary challenges related to human well-being and sustainable living.
The discipline covers diverse areas including human development, nutrition and health, textiles and apparel, resource management, design, communication, and community outreach. It equips students with practical skills, professional competencies, and a scientific outlook to contribute effectively to diverse sectors such as education, healthcare, nutrition, child development, fashion, communication, entrepreneurship, and community development.
It is also an interdisciplinary field that draws upon the three major domains of knowledge—physical sciences, life sciences, and social sciences. The five different disciplines, which form integral part of the study of home science include the following:
